"Fallen" is a suspense film directed by Gregory Hoblit in 1998. The movie stars Denzel Washington and John Goodman. The plot revolves around homicide detective John Hobbes and his partner Jones, who investigate a series of gruesome murders and attempt to bring the killer to justice.
Officer John Hobbes (played by Denzel Washington) recently arrests a murderer named Reese, who doesn't seem particularly noteworthy, except for uttering some strange phrases before his execution and leaving behind a coded message. However, Hobbes soon discovers that Reese's clues point to a police officer who committed suicide thirty years ago, Robert Milano. Meanwhile, a series of serial killings with a similar modus operandi begins, and what's even more unsettling is that each victim was the prime suspect in the previous murder. Hobbes visits Robert's daughter, Gretta, who warns him to stop the investigation.
Reese's message is eventually deciphered, revealing that he used an ancient Syrian language to threaten Hobbes. Hobbes's perseverance pays off when he realizes that both Robert and the recent victims may have fallen under the influence of an evil spirit named "Azazel," which can possess human bodies and commit malevolent acts. Hobbes's path to catch the killer becomes increasingly challenging. How will this battle between man and the evil spirit conclude?
